It relates to me because I like to be different from other people. I like to have different clothes and different sneakers. I like to have my own style. That is being diverse from other poeple, trends and styles.

Big Idea for Content Area:
To compare and contrast diseases, health conditions and health care that is prevalent in adolescents and adults including cancer, obesity, etc. in African Americans.
To discuss the importance of early detection of diseases, health conditions and health care that affects the African American community.
To develop the health skills needed to empower learners to assume lifelong concepts to maintain and support a healthy, active lifestyle.
Essential Question for Content Area:
To what extent can we keep ourselves free of hereditary and non-hereditary diseases?
Why are some diseases more prominent in the African-American culture?
Why are health disparities between African Americans and other racial groups more apparent in life expectancy, infant mortality and other measures of health status?

An individual’s health at different life stages is dependent on heredity, environmental factors and lifestyle choices.
Current and emerging diagnostic, prevention and treatment strategies can help people live healthier and longer lives.
Learner will have enhanced knowledge to communicate how research has shown that unhealthy choices can have a variety of harmful effects on the human body.
